And when you once asked me how I could have called that Saturday "good" with that fear in my heart, it's not difficult to explain. Since I love you, I love the whole world and this includes your left shoulder, no, it was first the right one, so I kiss it if I feel like it and this also includes your left shoulder and your face above me in the forest and my resting on your almost bare breast. And that's why you're right in saying that we were already one and I'm not afraid of it, rather it is my only happiness and my only pride and I don't confine it at all only to the forest.

But just between this day-world and that "half-hour in bed" of which you once spoke contemptuously as "men's business," there lies for me an abyss which I cannot bridge, probably because I don't want to. That over there is a concern of the night, thoroughly and in every sense a concern of the night: this here is the world and I possess it and now I'm supposed to leap across into the night in order to take possession of it once more. Can one take possession of anything twice? Does that not mean: to lose it? Here is the world which I possess, and I'm supposed to leap across for the sake of a sinister black-magic, of hocus-pocus, a philosopher's stone, alchemy, a wish-ring. Away with it, I'm terribly afraid of it.

To try and catch in one night by black magic, hastily, heavily breathing, helpless, obsessed, to try and obtain by black magic what every day offers to open eyes! This is the reason why I'm so grateful (to you and to everything) and it is therefore "samozrejimé" (natural) that by your side I'm most quiet and most unquiet, most inhibited and most free, and this is also why, after this realization, I have renounced all other life. Look into my eyes!

With Love,

Franz

Now mention hindu calendar

Come election time and Narendra Modi ruffles feathers

Politicians have learnt to create controversies and push their own ideology to gain as much publicity as possible. And there is a definite pattern: every controversy is created ahead of the elections with the sole target of provocation, which can translate into a substantial vote bank. Since 1992, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been pushing issues which can create divisions, helping its Hindutva cause.

With approaching 15th Lok Sabha elections, the Gujarat government’s Urban Development Department issued a circular (npn_1106_5519_R), which makes it compulsory to mention Vikram Samvat - the Hindu calendar - on every government plaque at official engagements. In addition, the circular makes it mandatory to mention Yugabd on government plaques. Yugbd is roughly a Hindu era, or the verious yugas, this being Kaliyug. It has been alleged by opposition leaders that controversial circular has been issued by Gujarat’s BJP government to garner Hindu votes. It is interesting to note that the same circular was issued in 2006 by the same ministry.

Officials say that the controversial circular is being studied by the state’s Congress leadership and is likely to be challenged by the Congress leadership in a court of law. In Gujarat, the BJP government, which has been in power over the past one-and-half decades, has passed many controversial legislations, almost all of them during election time.

Now Congress leaders in the state say that the Gujarat government’s intensions are clear and this circular has been reissued just in time for the elections.

When contacted, Minister for State from Urban Development, Nitinbhai Patel told TSI over the phone: “The circular was issued three years ago but it has been reissued three or four months ago to ensure its strict implementation. The document is not in the form of a regular circular but is a simple instruction, or what is called a GR. Yet, we have not found any kind of opposition from any section and this tradition is followed in India as per the Constitution of the country.”

Congress leader and Gujarat legislative party chief Arjun Modhvadia said: "They always do such things before elections. I am unaware of such a circular, but after elections we shall look into this." "As such, general people know Vikram Samvat but what does this Yugabd mean?" he asks

Watchmen - More than worth a watch

The source material for “Watchmen” is so dense and layered that director Zack Snyder’s version of the ‘unfilmable’ story from Alan Moore will always play catch up. But it’s so brilliant that the film version turns out just great! The screenplay is almost a panel-for-panel reproduction of the comic, er, graphic novel. But to Snyder’s credit, he weaves in a superb introduction to the backstory in the first five minutes, setting it up well for those not familiar with the story. The dark and gory theme with its examination of a parallel history of the world where superheroes have irreparably warped the fabric of society critically examines the superhero myth. The cast does a terrific job for the most part but a mention must be made of Jackie Earle Haley, who excels as the brutal and uncompromising Rorschah. And yes, the terrific soundtrack is the icing on the cake.

Why has the Army scrapped its pre-Olympics training scheme for soldiers’ children? The top brass say it has not been yielding results.

Shahrukh khan to Host IIPM 4Ps Annual Business and Marketing Quiz

An Olympian betrayal?

In the four years that the Mission has been around, all of the selected candidates have distinguished themselves in major national sports events. The Mission’s output is all on record: Sharp shooter Abhilasha Joshi even managed to trounce international star Anjali Bhagwat in 2007, and the team stood third in the 2008 January national shooting meet; and Kulwinder Singh won the National Junior Championship in 2008 in the 24 metre rapid fire event. She says, but for the Mission, she could not even have dreamt of pursuing the expensive sport.

Abhilasha was third in the 2008 team event along with fellow shooter Sriyanka Sadangi. Says Abhilasha, “The news of the Mission being axed has come as a terrible blow to us all; for everyone associated with the programme was highly organised and supportive. The equipment provided to us was the finest to be had anywhere.” Adds Sriyanka, “It is really painful – the mere thought, that I will never again get to report for those exciting, shooting sessions!”

Kanika (14), and Lovepreet also earned national selections in athletics, and like the others feel they will lose everything now that the Mission has been terminated. Lovepreet, the son of a soldier, absolutely dreads the prospect of returning to his native place Ambala. Says he, “I can’t tell you how I have slogged these last three years.” And they were speaking not just for themselves, but the rest of the contingent as well.

Coach Deep Bhatia shares their pain, and completely disagrees with those in the Army who claim that no results were coming in. Says Bhatia: “I profoundly disagree with all those who say the Misson needed to fold up.”

Last year Major General V.K. Ahluwalia, Director-General of Military Training, the nodal department of the Army that was tasked with running the Mission, had told TSI: “Already, I can say with confidence that this Mission has a great future.” So what can have happened in this one year to so completely extinguish that optimism? Even if there was nepotism and financial management, as some allege, is this abrupt scuttling of the Mission the solution? Should not the Army have punished the guilty officers and found healthy replacements?

Considering the many accomplishments of the Mission’s sportsmen, there was every chance that, with three more years’ training, some among them at least would have shone in the Olympics. As international shooter Samresh Jung says there needs to be great consistency to become worthy of an Olympic medal. Jung cites the example of the Chinese shooting team. “Its 2008 Olympic hopefuls began training in 2005 itself, and China established 28 international quality ranges for the purpose,” says Jung. National shooter Rachna Kulshreshtha agrees, and says it takes a great deal to produce an international level player. Adds Kulshreshtha, “It all calls for huge investments and focused work, and even then it takes six to seven years to shape a player of world standing.” And the Mission had completed less than four years when the news of its demise surfaced.

This most unfortunate decision was least expected from the Indian Army, which has always been famed for its disciplined and holistic approach in all things. But for now, that image lies in ruins, along with the dreams of all these budding sporting talents.

…you must be joking! The decline in WPI-led index for inflation is not good news at all for the common consumers, as the numbers are manipulated,

Shahrukh khan to Host IIPM 4Ps Annual Business and Marketing Quiz

0।44% Inflation

A quick reality check reveals that the consumer prices are consistently moving northwards while the headline inflation moves southwards. Picture this – inflation rate (as on March 7, 2009) for sugar, salt, pulses, cereals, milk and spices are respectively pegged at 22.37 per cent, 11.07 per cent, 10.97 per cent, 10.16 per cent, 7.1 per cent and 6.23 per cent – now that’s the bitter reality. The miniscule weightage attached to this key category and the high price that these food items command is subtly dwarfed by the inclusion of numerous other commodities, which, strictly speaking, do not qualify within the ambit of essential goods.

The current basket of WPI does not include power bills, medicines, education, transport et al (which, in the real sense, involve a heavy outgo), but is tilted more towards manufacturers, so that the behaviour of the index for this group largely determines the movement of the overall index. Now that’s the manipulation that the government has been resorting to; had it not been so, the headline inflationary picture could well have been altogether different. As a matter of fact, the retail-based inflation continues to be in double digits; consumer price indices for agricultural labourers (CPI- AL) and for rural labourers (CPI- RL) are both pegged at 10.79 per cent.

Actually, the real difference is in the constituents of the index, for the government plays around with WPI data, while what really matters to the aam aadmi is CPI. Consider this: food prices have about 60 per cent weightage in CPI (AL and RL), while its weightage in WPI is around 15 per cent, thereby overshadowing the importance of consumption basket of the masses.

Though deflation fears exist, at the retail level it is a distant dream. Nevertheless, the government has been quick to rule out any such possibility. Says KM Chandrasekhar, Cabinet Secretary: “I do not see any signs of deflation, as demand for certain sectors like steel, cement and automobiles is picking as also is rural demand. The inflation trend clearly shows that the stimulus packages rolled out by the government are starting to show results.”

According to Tushar Poddar, economist with Goldman Sachs Inc, (remember the BRIC report!) inflation will turn negative in April and will remain so until the end of 2009. What does the declining streak of inflation have in store for banks? Singhania expresses his fears as he says, “Alarmingly, given the present inflation rate and the interest rates being charged by banks, the real rate of interest in the economy is at double digit levels. Banks must lower lending rates to single digit levels if economic activity is to be stimulated.” More than that, consumers should in fact be now demanding for a real basket of WPI, which reflects the price volatility in actual terms and not in tandem with the manipulations of the government.

T.R. Balu has dealt the single biggest blow to India’s infrastructural development by decimating its highway development

The man who killed NH 28

Only 49% of work was completed under the first phase of NHDP-I in 2007-08. Way behind schedule

Contracts for laying down 811 kilometres of four-lane highways were to be given in 2007-08. His Ministry has been able to award contracts for only 43 km, a pathetic five percent progress.

Contracts could be awarded for 278 kms out of a targetted 3,278 kms during 2007-08 under third phase of NHDP- a dismal 9% achievement, Chief Minister Uttaranchal, Maj. Gen. (retd) B.C. Khanduri – Balu’s predecessor who coordinated NDA government’s road building efforts - feels inept handling and rampant corruption is ruining the infrastructure backbone of the country. “If we can build airports within a 2-3 year time span, why can’t we make our roads as quickly? What could have been a shining example of India’s infrastructural leap is now a national shame,” he says.

The economic slump seems to have left its mark as most highway contractors have suspended work demanding revision of their contracts. Reason: escalating costs. The past nine months have been without work. “It is a ruse by ministry officials to increase work cost in collusion with contractors,” fumes an NHAI official.

Insiders paint a slimy picture of awarding contracts। For instance, a Rs 195 crore contract for building a 116-km stretch between Beawer and Gomti in Rajasthan was awarded last month to IL&FS Transportation Networks Limited (ITNL) in a single bid tender. The bidding process was started in July 2008 with six companies short listed by the Ministry as per the required norms.

The sad saga of the uniform

Khao Aur Khilao budget by Arindam Chaudhuri
Shahrukh khan to Host IIPM 4Ps Annual Business and Marketing Quiz
2,300 IIPM students get jobs

The way India treats its armed forces is nothing but blasphemy

Are there lessons for India from the paramilitary (BDR) mutiny that happened in Bangladesh? Even though there have been several instances of suicides and fratricides in the Indian armed forces including the paramilitary, the fear of such a mutiny happening in India is to a great extent unfounded. The reasons for the same being that the average paramilitary personnel here gets a far better remuneration than the pittance his counterpart gets in Bangladesh and that India’s effective counter-intelligence system would unlid such a conspiracy much before any thing like that can ever happen in India. And most importantly, unlike in other parts of South Asia, India’s military and paramilitary organizations are extremely professional and devoid of any kind of radical influence that has plagued defense institutions of Bangladesh and Pakistan. Yet for the all the sacrifices and professionalism that India’s armed forces have displayed over the years, the key question that needs to be addressed is whether this country has actually taken care of its men in uniform in the best way possible.

When it comes to remuneration, India’s archaic and often irrational rules equate the armed forces at par with the civilian employees of the government. It’s irrational because unlike the professionalism in work and the hardship all through the service tenure that the armed personnel go through, it needs no elaboration how much toil most of India’s civilian employees in government jobs actually put in. Had they been even half as professional as the armed forces, India would have been a far better nation today. It's an unwritten norm for most civilian employees to come late in office. They never need to risk their lives, get the right to protest against anything through unions and often take the nation to ransom through strikes in essential services like postal system, banks, civil aviation and railways to name a few. And yet the government tries its best to appease them. The armed personnel on the contrary perform duty in some of the most difficult terrains of the country, are forced to live without their families for months, have hectic working hours and suffer from severe stress due to hostile environment and non-cooperation from the locals. And above all they risk their lives all the time for the nation. Yet when it comes to remuneration, the poor foot soldier gets no reward for his sacrifices and is equated with that work shirking civilian government employee who enjoys life more than he deserves. Ironically those who are the first to lay down their lives in case of a national emergency, who are nation's last resort during calamities when other government machineries collapse, are the ones ignored the most when it comes to doling out monetary rewards. Be it the army or mostly in case of paramilitary forces like CRPF, BSF, SSB, ITBP or Assam Rifles, throughout the service tenure, the jawans either live in borders or disturbed areas. The government can afford to waive off Rs 70,000 crore of farm loans (its impact is doubtful as farmer suicides continue), waste billions on subsidies which never benefit the poor, but finds it difficult to spare a few thousand crores to give hardship allowances to paramilitary personnel or a military service pay to army jawans or create a few family accommodations at the Border Out Posts. Sadly these are never election issues in a country where rabble rousers are rewarded while the disciplined and faithful men in uniform are literally punished for their diligence and discipline.

Is Brand Bollywood Dangerously Mis-Representing India to A Star-Struck Nri Universe?!

Khao Aur Khilao budget by Arindam Chaudhuri
Shahrukh khan to Host IIPM 4Ps Annual Business and Marketing Quiz
2,300 IIPM students get jobs

In today’s India, to the teeming zillions, entertainment is Bollywood! Gorgeous stars, glamour, emotion, passion, sex, melodrama, music, dance, pop-patriotism riding on parampara and timeless values … spinning out its own version of realism to attract and entice a constituency (NRI, second gen) gullible, impressionable, disconnected totally with the real Indian experience and completely blown by its mesmerising blend of masti and magic!

Point is, is this simplistic, cutesy representation of India REAL or is this – in effect –done to suit B-towns’ [vested] interest, vulgarising the intrinsic, rich and multi-layered character of a nation by presenting it in a comic-strip, cardboard-cut-out, easy-to-love and digest package? Or are we unnecessarily getting too touchy, hyper, overreacting and (most importantly) shying away from a hard and real fact that is there for all to see… Bollywood’s triumphant global march!

Celebrated theatre director Feroz Khan [Tumhari Amrita, Gandhi V/S Gandhi, Salesman Ramlal, Salgirah] fires the first salvo. “Bollywood’s approach today is direct and single-minded: Reduce everything to a level of mediocrity that instantly allows mass-consumption! B-town is a planet, focused on offering an alternate reality promising bharpoor entertainment without fullstops.” Khan believes that this is not the scary part, but their aggressive elevation of mediocrity to excellence, is. Regarding the NRI wooing, Khan believes that Bollywood deliberately does a “sexy remix” of the Indian experience that guarantees, the “feel-good” factor, because their NRI audience “is not looking for reality. As for responsibility and commitment, the B-town guys have only one mantra – the Box Office. Period.”

Javed Akhtar begs to differ. “Anyone who believes that the NRI is gullible, impressionable, ignorant or plain dumb vis-à-vis cultural and social influences, is mistaken. Two things need to be understood immediately. One, there is a huge community of solid professionals – doctors, lawyers, engineers, bankers, architects, IT and finance experts, businessmen – who invade this NRI space with distinction and pride. Are they all culturally regressive and under-privileged?” Two, Akhtar believes that finally it is a mater of choice. If the NRI kids ‘choose’ to patronize Bollywood films, then it’s their choice. “No one is forcing them to go ra-ra over the SRK road shows or "Singh Is Kinng". Also, if the non-Bollywood fare was really so fabulous, surely they would find their own audience…”

Critic’s cesspool, And it is the viewer who gets suckered…

Where are Indian film-reviewing standards headed? Well, based on recent evidence, the so-called critics would struggle to garner even a single star on the stuff they churn out. And it is the viewer who gets suckered…

‘In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment.’ Those were the words of Anton Ego, a food critic in Pixar’s ‘Ratatouille’. In any society that places any credibility on its critics, they are opinion moulders.

It is terrible when critics take out their personal vendetta through their reviews. Khalid Mohammed’s anti-Bachchan stand is well known and it reflects clearly on all of Bachchan’s films that he reviews. However, many argue that he can be excused because all his other reviews are fabulous and original with liberal doses of wit and readers in any case know that for a Big B film one needn’t read his reviews. However, what about a reviewer whose reviews keep going wrong every now and then, that too in a newspaper which almost shapes the views of half of India’s newspaper readers?

Anurag Kashyap’s "Dev D", his new millennium take on Sarat Chandra’s classic novel Devdas, is typically Kashyap. Dark, brooding and taboo breaking, it’s a good piece of work. But to give it five stars out of five in a review is surely misleading the audience. As someone said, take all the love out of "Devdas" and replace it with crass sexual overtones and you have "Dev D". I couldn’t help agree to the viewer whom I met outside the movie hall as I was about to step in for the movie in question. "Are you going to see that five star rated film "Dev D"? Don’t! It’s not worth it!" he offered even though I had not solicited any opinion from him. Perhaps he was thinking aloud, perhaps the Anurag Kashyap school of film making was not quite where he got his film viewing diploma from but I had only one thought cross my mind, "Man he’s taken the critic too seriously!" And that was the root cause of his disappointment. The critic in question in this particular case is Nikhat Kazmi, a 20-year veteran in the field and the publication The Times of India. Our average Joe (OK, Jai) obviously swears by those red stars against the movie names that appear every Friday and he had gotten suckered. The bad news is it surely was not the first time.

Director Onirban ("My Brother Nikhil") tells TSI, "A reviewer gave “Sorry Bhai” 3.5 stars and gave “Yuvvraaj” which came around the same time, 4 stars. Mediocrity is celebrated." Indian mainstream film reviewing standards have always been suspect, lately it seems to be close to losing its bearings. Taran Adarsh, the last word when it comes to film trade analysis in India, told TSI, "On the premier night of "Dev D", people already knew that it’s going to get 5 stars and they were saying that check out for the review in Times of India. Now, how do they know how many stars would the film get before the reviewer has published the review? Such a thing is ridiculous!" Adarsh’s outburst is not limited to an isolated case of ‘star inflation’ – poor films getting decent reviews.

M H Wood to T S Eliot

Shahrukh khan to Host IIPM 4Ps Annual Business and Marketing Quiz

Some recent accounts of TS Eliot’s behaviour during the Great War have presented him as negative and playing safe. Vincent Sherry’s The Great War and the Language of Modernism describes him as essentially ‘opportunist’ and ‘circumspect’, assiduously networking and avoiding trouble during the war years. On June 23rd, 1917, The Nation, a weekly magazine of news and comment, published this letter from TS Eliot that he received from his brother in law Maurice Haigh-Wood. The graphic and disturbing language of the officer’s letter is an exception to the convention of reticence that governed most public discourse in 1917.

June 8th, 1917, War Front

Dear Editor

There is rather a good article in THE NATION this last week called ‘On Leave.’ You should read it. I have often heard it said that the curious thing about those who have been to the front is their complete indifference. They appear to be practically untouched by what they have seen and gone through, they talk about war in a callous and humorous way, they even joke about its horrors.

The impression one has from them is that it is, on the whole, a dreary and unpleasant business, with its anxious moments and its bright moments, but not nearly such a hell as one really knows it to be.

In the case of the vast majority, however, this is an attitude, a screen – I speak of educated thinking men – and it is not granted to many who have not shared the same experiences to see behind the screen. The reason for this, as the article points out, is the practical impossibility for the uninitiated to realize or imagine even dimly the actual conditions of war. And a man who has been through it and seen and taken part in the unspeakable tragedies that are the ordinary routine, feels that he has something, possesses something, which others can never possess.

It is morally impossible for him to talk seriously of these things to people who cannot even approach comprehension. It is hideously exasperating to hear people talking the glib commonplaces about the war and distributing cheap sympathy to its victims.

The feisty femme fatale

Shahrukh khan to Host IIPM 4Ps Annual Business and Marketing Quiz

Kareena Kapoor believes in no regrets. After her last outing with Akshay Kumar failed, the spunkiest girl in B-town is back with "Kambakkht Ishq", hot as ever. The Kapoor heiress-apparent, here in conversation with Prakriti Raj…

What’s “Kambakkht Ishq” all about?

This is a romantic comedy and the audience would love it. I am playing the role of a super model while Akshay plays a stuntman in this film. Quite a few Hollywood stars are a part of this film too. I am very excited about the promos of this film; it is very close to my heart and I am eagerly waiting for its release.

Your previous film with Akshay, “Tashan”, was a flop. Why do you think “Kambakkht Ishq” would attract the audiences?

According to me, the interesting arguments between Akshay and I are the USP of this film. It has good dialogues and some very entertaining scenes. I am not saying that this film would make it to the Oscars, but the audience would like it for sure because it is a light and entertaining movie.

You have delivered a dialogue in this movie which goes “all men are interested only in one thing…” Do you feel that way personally too?

(Laughs) No, it’s not like that. The dialogue has been delivered by Simrita, who is the heroine in the film. Personally I feel so sometimes and I can vouch that most women do so too.

No big banner movie has released in so long. Do you think this would prove beneficial to your movie?

Yes I feel it would, since the audience has been waiting for a long time, for a good movie to release. I hope it’s worth the wait and they like the movie.

You have played roles ranging from the one in “Chameli” to “Golmaal Returns” in a short span. Do you consider yourself lucky?

I certainly feel lucky to have been given these opportunities, through which I could prove my talent. Currently, I am very happy with the way my career is shaping up. I would love to do more diverse and challenging roles in the future.

An unending trauma

About 60,000 refugees have fled Taliban-held Malakand to safer places, reports Shahid Hussain

Momin Khan, 26, a construction worker from Amankot, Mingora in Swat had to walk for six days from his village to reach Mardan in North West Frontier Province (NWFP) to save his life from the Taliban.

He is currently lodged in “Swat mutasareen camp” in Gadap town, some 40 km from Saddar, central Karachi. The camp was established on May 28 amid strikes by some Sindhi parties demanding that internally displaced persons (IDPs) should not be allowed to come to Sindh. About 150 refugees are lodged here but they are keen to return, if they had a choice.

“I left my village on May 7 and reached Mardan on May 13. To my shock, I was not able to get a tent for my family in the refugee camp. I had no option but to come to Karachi,” Momin Khan told TSI.

“I don’t know from where the Taliban have come to Swat. We never saw them before. Maybe they came from Afghanistan or India,” he said. Amjad, a 10-year-old from village Kokari in Swat, narrates a similar tale after putting aside the Quran he was reciting at a tent along with many other children. “We came here because of the fighting between the army and Taliban.

I was scared of mortar shells. I saw three people, including a woman, being killed by these shells,” he said. “My school was destroyed. Now I live here along with my two brothers and a sister. My father is a chowkidar (gatekeeper) in Dubai," a terrified Amjad said.

Like many others, Amjad wants to go back to his village as soon as it’s possible. “It’s very hot here and there is no water,” he said. But Amjad has justifiable fears.

“If the war does not end in Swat I will be stranded. How will I go back?” he queries.

The “Swat mutasareen camp” has been established in a deserted area. Police and para military forces have been stationed there so that they are not attacked by extremist elements. Living conditions are pathetic. At least 10 per cent of internally displaced people (IDPs) living in the “Swat mutasareen camp” are suffering from respiratory tract infections.

“I Didn’t Show Any Skin”….

Akshay Kumar On The Unbuttoning Controversy

According to Akshay Kumar, who’s just been declared the highest taxpayer of Bollywood, the jeans-unbuttoning controversy has enhanced the brand’s sales by 20 per cent.

The actor who has been accused of unbecoming behaviour can’t stop laughing at the irony of it. “When the brand’s bosses called to tell me how much they had gained, I thought, Chalo kisi ko to phayda hua.”

Laughing off the controversy that erupted after Akshay’s wife, Twinkle, unbuttoned his trousers at a fashion event, the star accuses vested interests of trying to sabotage his career. “Otherwise how does one explain so much interest in one button on my trouser when there are so many really critical problems facing the country including the Lok Sabha Elections?” Brushing off the police complaint filed for obscenity against Akshay and his wife, he says, “It was nothing. Last year too a girl unbuttoned one button of my jeans as part of the endorsement because the whole campaign is called ‘unbutton’, which signifies freedom. Last year it was a model. This year it was my wife.”

So did Akshay bring in his wife as a last-minute improvisation at the endorsement event? “There was no improvisation. I am not a scriptwriter. It was all planned; was all a part of the act. A girl was supposed to run up to me and undo the top button of my jeans. I was supposed to stop her and go up to my wife to get her to do the needful… But it’s all behind us now.”

Akshay blames the whole incident on the same people whom he had pointedly accused of trying to sabotage his interests about a few months ago.

No bumper prizes for guessing whom he means when he says, “These are people within our industry, my colleagues in fact, who cannot bear to see others succeed in life. Otherwise how do you explain this eruption of moral anger when I had done nothing more than just undo one button? No skin was shown, nor did I have girls in bikinis dancing around me on the ramp.

Lekin agar kisiko footage khana hai to kya karen? Some people found my behaviour objectionable. I apologised. The matter should’ve ended there. Why was it dragged on in this suspicious manner?”
