What is your opinion on Akashic Records?

Some of my patients have been able to access the state of all-knowing that is referred to as the Akashic Records or what Carl Jung described as the collective unconscious, so I do believe that that is possible. It’s not common to be able to achieve this.

Do you think child geniuses actually carry on from where they left off in their previous lives?

I think that is entirely possible. Mozart may be a very good example. We carry over talents and abilities, not only symptoms, from previous lives.

Has it happened that during a therapy, your patient did not come out of his past life? What measures do you take to prevent this?

That has never happened to me. People who don't understand hypnosis often have unfounded fears about the process. Hypnosis is focussed concentration such as the intense concentration we have when reading a good book or seeing an absorbing movie. You are always in control. You cannot get 'stuck' nor can you do anything against your will.

Is Dr Brian Weiss primarily a spiritual healer or a scientific doctor?

I think both as they’re not incompatible. I still use my medical and psychiatric training, but I am also aware of healing energies and abilities. This is a natural integration that is happening in holistic medicine today.

What is Dr Brian Weiss’ life really like?

My life is quite normal in many ways, but I have been blessed to be a part of wonderful experiences all over the world. I have been touched by being part of so many people’s lives.

How did the experience of Past Life Therapy change you and your life?

I went from a psychiatrist who was very left-brained and intellectual to a much more open-minded therapist. My values have also evolved, and I place less emphasis on the material and more on the spiritual. I’m not so concerned about death because of what I’ve learned from my patients. It has helped me on many levels.

How does your family react to your vocation?

My family has always been supportive. My wife is also a therapist who uses these techniques.

Have you undergone the therapy yourself? What were the results and did it solve any of your problems?

I have had several (nine or ten) past life memories. I wrote about some of these in my books. I was never a famous person; that is a misconception of this work.

I didn’t have specific problems to solve but my experiences did help me to understand what my patients were going through. They helped me to understand my lessons in this current lifetime. I was a priest, a monk, and a student in some lifetimes and I lived in cultures all over the world.

Any message for your harshest critics?

It is very important for us all to keep an open-mind. Closed minds cannot learn anything new.
